Canadian author visit

On June 11 the Canadian author Deborah Ellis visited the school to speak to some of our by then new S2 classes. Pupils prepared for this visit by researching in English issues like Taliban rule in Afghanistan and drug trafficking in Bolivia.

These may not be the cheeriest of subjects but form the background of Deborah’s previous trilogy which started with “the Breadwinner” and her new book “ Prison runner”.

Pupils produced some high quality leaflets (see below) and posters for display in the Library during and after Deborah’s visit.

As well as hearing about this writer’s experiences a smaller group of our pupils will interview her for the next issue of “Teen Titles”*

(i.e. the three times a year publication by Edinburgh schools which features pupil reviews on books for teenagers.)
